Updating adm files

Viewing an ADMX file using a text editor is for that purpose only - to view the ADMX file. You don't need to open ADMX files manually for them to be used because the Group Policy Management Console or Group Policy Object Editor is what actually utilizes the files. To display policy settings in a specific language, ADMX files reference language-specific resource files (ADML files) in a subfolder in the same location.Microsoft has just released the Administrative Templates (ADMX/ADML) files that allow you to configure their newest Group Policy Administrative Template setting for Windows 8.1 Update and Windows Server 2012 R2 Update. These files are already provided with the operating system when you go to install it however this download allows you to update the policy settings even on an older version of the OS.:) I'd rather be proactive and block auto updates, than react to ADM issues. After all, that's why MS exposed this setting :))-----Original Message-----From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of [EMAIL PROTECTED]Sent: 20 February 2005 To: Active [email protected]: Re: [Active Dir] Updating ADM files - best practices I understand your concern that unexpectedly updating the Production ADM files "sounds like a bad idea", but it really isn't that dangerous. Of course you have to be careful when you change policies that you understand what the ADM template is now doing....These policy files are available for Windows, Linux and Mac systems. If you are interested in installing policies on Mac or Linux systems consult Google's Support page which describes how that is done.First thing you need to do is download the policy templates from the page linked in the previous paragraph.Click on Windows and Linux there and then on "zip file of Google Chrome templates and documentation".The download has a size of 7.1 Megabyte and needs to be extracted on the system after it completes. One way to do that is to tap on the Windows-key, type and hit enter. If you choose to participate, the online survey will be presented to you when you leave the Technet Web site. Policies provide system administrators and users with options to configure the behavior of certain features of the Windows operating system or applications available on machines running it.The issues I mentioned are related to the fact that in the past I have used GP settings which have subsequently 'disappeared' from the UI, which meant I was no longer able to control those settings via GPO.You say the ADM should be tested before release, but how would you ensure this is done?ADMX files are structured the same as XML files and so you can follow the same open/edit rules. In other words, any text editor, like Notepad in Windows or the free Notepad , will open ADMX files for viewing and editing.
